The Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training Academy at Robeson Community College is a comprehensive program designed to prepare individuals for entry-level employment as tractor-trailer drivers. The course provides in-depth instruction in the operation of commercial motor vehicles with a focus on safety, compliance, and practical driving skills.
Students will learn essential topics including commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, safe driving techniques, defensive driving strategies, freight handling, security procedures, fire protection, vehicle maintenance, daily log requirements, and map reading for trip planning.
Training is delivered through a combination of classroom instruction, online learning modules, closed-course range exercises, and supervised highway driving. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience to ensure students gain the confidence and competence required to operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently.
Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the NC Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Skills Exam.

Have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and Social Security card

Submit full payment of $682.60 at the time of registration

Attend the mandatory orientation scheduled for your class session
Disqualifying Violations (Within the Last 5 Years)
Applicants will not be admitted to the program if convicted of any of the following offenses within the past five (5) years:

DUI/DWI

Leaving the scene of an accident

Felony drug possession

Careless and reckless driving

License suspension
-
Refusal to take a chemical test
-
More than three (3) moving violations
Age Restriction Notice

Our CDL Class A Upgrade Program is designed specifically for drivers who currently hold a Class B CDL and want to advance their careers by upgrading to a Class A license.
Through this program, you’ll learn:

Dump Truck or Activity Bus?
A Class B CDL is required to operate:

A single vehicle with a GVWR over 26,001 pounds

A trailer not exceeding 10,000 pounds

Vehicles designed to transport 24 or more passengers, including the driver
Our CDL Academy offers:

At the conclusion of the program, you’ll complete your licensing on-site with our licensed examiners by taking the official Class B CDL test.
