Workforce Certifications

Robeson Community College offers certifications to assist in the enhancement of career development. Our institution partners with local industries, businesses leaders, community organizations, and informed professionals to bring our students the most recent and relevant training standards implemented by state and federal agencies.

 

 

This course prepares individuals for an entry level position as automotive service technicians who inspect, maintain, and repair automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline, electricity, or alternative fuels. Topics may include brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, suspension steering, automatic transmission & transaxle, engine repair, heating & air conditioning, manual drive axles, and alternative fuel technologies. Upon completion, students may sit for industry-recognized credentials.

Requirements
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age by the first class meeting date
  • Students must attend at least 80% of the contact hours in order to complete the course
  • A Completion Certificate is issued at the conclusion of the course

This course supports the NCDOT Highway Construction Training program designed to provide individuals with training in highway construction-related skills including construction safety, mathematics for trades, job-site readiness and general labor as well as an introduction to heavy equipment, tools, erosion and paving concepts. The NCDOT HCTA has an emphasis on providing training to access highway construction jobs for minorities, women and disadvantaged individuals as part of the Title 23 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). All NCDOT HCTA programs must be operated under the criteria established by NCDOT.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to receive several industry-recognized certifications. These certifications include CPR, First Aid, First on Scene, OSHA Forklift Operator, Level I Machine Operator, OSHA 10, and Flagger.

Requirements
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age by the first class meeting date
  • Students must attend at least 80% of the contact hours in order to complete the course
  • Students must be present on certification days in order to receive a certificate
Schedule
  • Highway Construction Trade Academy is a 135 hour course
  • Each Cohort is designed as a 3 week course
  • Class meetings are Monday-Thursday (8:30AM-4:00PM) and Friday (8:30AM-3:00PM)

Cost & Registration

The Highway Construction Trade Academy is offered FREE of CHARGE through a grant funded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Interested participants will complete the initial registration with NCDOT staff.

This 12-hour of pre-licensing training is required to become an Independent Automobile Dealer and apply for the Used Motor Vehicle Dealer’s License.

Requirements
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age by the first class meeting date
  • Students must attend 100% of the required contact hours in order to receive certification
Schedule
  • NC DMV Dealer Initial License is a 12 hour course
  • Class meetings are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • Class times are 5:30PM – 9:30 PM

The NC DMV Dealer Initial License course is $72.00.

Students MUST complete registration and provide payment before the scheduled date of the course they wish to attend. Students who register and pay, but do not show up for class, are NOT eligible for a refund.

Requirements
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age by the first class meeting date
  • Students must attend 100% of the required contact hours in order to receive certification
Schedule
  • NC DMV Dealer License Renewal is a 6 hour course
  • Class meetings are Tuesday and Thursday
  • Class times are 6:00PM – 9:00PM

The NC DMV Dealer License Renewal course is $72.00.

This course provides instruction on the operation and maintenance of an industrial forklift. Core topics include forklift design, controls and instrumentation, pre-use inspection, safety awareness, and forklift stability. This course meets the training requirements for related Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.

Requirements
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age at the time of registration
  • Students must attend 100% of the required contact hours in order to receive certification
Schedule
  • OSHA Forklift Operator is an 8 hour course
  • All classes are held on Saturday
  • Class times are 8:00AM – 5:00PM
Cost & Registration

The OSHA Forklift Operator course is $72.60.

The course is designed to meet the training and licensing requirements (initial and/or renewal) for the Vehicle Safety and On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Emissions Inspection Program administered by the NC Division of Motor Vehicles, License and Theft Bureau. Upon completion, a student will understand the rules, regulations and procedures for conducting a vehicle safety and OBD emissions inspections; be able to inspect a vehicle properly; and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam.

Requirements
  • Students must be 18 years of age by the first class meeting date
  • Students must be employed by a NCDMV recognized mechanic
  • Students must attend 100% of the contact hours in order to complete the course
