Medical Office Administration

This curriculum prepares individuals for employment in medical and other health-care related offices. Course work will include medical terminology; information systems; office management; medical coding, billing and insurance; legal and ethical issues; and formatting and word processing. Students will learn administrative and support functions and develop skills applicable in medical environments.

Employment opportunities are available in medical and dental offices, hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, medical supply companies, and other health-care related organizations.  Median Salary: $34,503 (www.salary.com)

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

One of the main attributes of the Medical Office Administrator is the ability to protect the privacy of the patient as their medical information must be handled with discretion. The candidates will need extremely high levels of interpersonal skills in the daily exchange of sensitive and timely patient data. Attention to detail is a must with the ability to take initiative and make decisions.

Medical Office Administration - Medical Billing and Coding, AAS

The Medical Office Administration Billing and Coding curriculum prepares individuals for employment as medical administrative personnel in the areas of medical office, medical billing and coding, dental office, patient services, and medical documents. Emphasis is placed on medical billing and coding and preparation for the national coding certification exam.

The Medical Office Administration – Medical Billing and Coding  AAS is a 64 credit hour program.
