Hospitality Management

With a degree from Hospitality Management, there are a number of industries where you can use your skills and talents. Your work will help your organization develop solid plans and identify key processes that will help it run smoothly and efficiently. This includes the gaming industry, meeting and event planning, resort management, real estate, country clubs, real estate and investment, cruise lines, stadiums and arenas, and senior living. Some of the more popular careers can include positions such as director of lodging development, meeting and events manager, casino manager, front or resort manager, or director of dining services.

You may develop unique cuisine experiences, conceptualize and create menu offerings, or ensure the profitability of bar and beverage management. You may find opportunities as a marketing analyst, human resources director, distribution center manager, or director of restaurant operations.

In June 2019, the leisure and hospitality industry—which consists of accommodation and food services and arts, entertainment, and recreation—hired 1,142,000 people nationwide, an increase of 42,000 hires from May and 64,000 hires from June 2018. Employment of food service managers is projected to grow 1 percent from 2019 to 2029, slower than the average for all occupations. Those with several years of work experience in food service and a degree in hospitality, restaurant, or food service management will have the best job opportunities. Those seeking jobs at hotels with the highest level of guest services are expected to face competition, as these positions are highly sought after by people trained in hospitality management or administration. Applicants with a degree in hospitality or hotel management are expected to have the best job opportunities, particularly at upscale and luxury hotels. (U.S. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS)

CAREER OPTIONS

Graduates should qualify for: Management or entry-level supervisory positions in food and lodging operations, including restaurants, food service, beverage service, catering, front office, reservations and housekeeping. Opportunities are also available in product services, and technology support and sales.

The average Hotel Manager salary in North Carolina is $106,520 as of August 27, 2020, but the range typically falls between $75,583 and $138,635. Salary ranges can vary widely depending on many important factors, including education, certifications, additional skills, the number of years you have spent in your profession. (Salary.com)

Hospitality Management, AAS

The Hospitality Management curriculum prepares individuals to understand and apply the administrative and practical skills needed for supervisory and managerial positions in hotels, motels, resorts, inns, restaurants, institutions, and clubs.

Course work includes guest services, leadership, management, restaurant operations, lodging operations, marketing, sanitation, food preparation, food and beverage management and other critical areas.

The Hospitality Management AAS Degree is a 65-credit hour program. There is a basic core of 47 credit hours. The program also consists of 18 general education credit hours.
