Robeson Community College’s CDL Training Academy is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to drive tractor-trailers. The program covers essential driving techniques, driver responsibilities, commercial motor vehicle laws, and the foundational principles of operating commercial vehicles safely and efficiently. Coursework includes topics such as motor vehicle laws and regulations, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, defensive driving, freight handling, security, and fire protection.
The training is a blend of highway driving, range exercises, and classroom instruction to ensure comprehensive preparation. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Exam.
The Day Academy is a 10-week program, spanning 480 hours. The schedule may be affected by inclement weather. Students will spend approximately 60% of their time on the range and 40% in the classroom, including online learning. Access to a computer, laptop, or tablet is required for course completion.

- Have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and social security card.
- Full payment of $682.60 is required at the time of registration.
- Attend the mandatory orientation scheduled for the class in which you are registered.
VIOLATIONS THAT PROHIBIT ENTRY TO THE PROGRAM IF CONVICTED WITHIN THE LAST FIVE (5) YEARS
- DUI/DWI -Leaving the scene of an accident.
- Felony drug possession charge -Careless and reckless
- License Suspension -More than three (3) moving violations.
- Refusal to take a chemical test.
**Please be advised that students who are 18 years or older, but less than 21 years of age are limited to the age restrictions set forth in 49 CFR Part 391.11 and limitations established by the United States Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and G.S. 20-317.13.

This license is required for operating a single vehicle with a GVWR of more than 26,001 pounds or a trailer not exceeding 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, as well as vehicles designed to transport 24 or more people (including the driver). Our CDL Academy offers extensive range and road driving practice to prepare students for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) final test. In addition to classroom instruction, the training includes online coursework. At the conclusion of the program, our licensed examiners will administer the Class B-Commercial Driver License (CDL) final licensing examination.

This self-paced online course covers hazardous materials regulations, along with proper handling, packaging, and transport techniques. Successful completers will be prepared to pass the North Carolina/South Carolina DMV Hazmat Endorsement test.
- The Hazmat Endorsement Training course is 24 hours.
- All classes are offered online only.
