Participation in the Adult High School (AHS) will not only grant students an opportunity to earn a high school diploma, but they will also become eligible to receive a Career Readiness Certificate and to enroll in Continuing Education Courses.


Requirements
  • Adults 18 years or older.
    • (Minors 16 and 17 years old meeting RCC criteria may be enrolled if they meet certain guidelines.)
  • Do not have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma
  • Have a copy of an official transcript from their previous high school

How do I enroll?

To enroll, you must attend one of the orientations. For adult high school, high school equivalency, and refresher courses, please call 910-272-3607 to register for orientation.

What time do classes meet?

We offer both day and evening classes. We also offer limited distance learning opportunities.

Will someone be there to guide me?

Each class has an instructor who will work with you to help you complete your educational goal.

How long will it take to complete the program?

This will depend on you and your needs. The coordinators, instructors, and testing staff will work with you to assess where you currently are and document your progress.

Can I attend college or a university with an adult high school diploma or a high school equivalency certificate?

Yes! Both credentials will allow you to enroll at many community colleges or universities.

How much does the program cost?

Classes are free!!!

BLS – CPR TRAINING

This course meets the requirements for Child Care, Nursing Assistant, Nursing, and other agencies that require the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR card. Written and performance testing is required. This class is offered on campus on the first, second, and fourth Friday each month from 0830-1330.  A course completion card will be issued within 20 days of successful course completion. This class is offered on our main campus, building 17 Health Science Room 1751-B upstairs

CPR Classes

This comprehensive course provides instruction and hands-on practice in the concepts and techniques of Esthetics.  Topics include safety, skin care, make-up, and other required topics. Graduates should be prepared to take the North Carolina Cosmetology State Board Licensing Exam and upon passing be licensed and qualify for employment in beauty and cosmetic/skin care salons, as a platform artist, and in related businesses.

This course is designed to prepare students for both state and national massage therapy licensing exams through classwork and practical, hands-on training. Students will obtain a foundation for practice as an entry-level professional massage therapist. Topics will include: education, anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, communication, client evaluation, technique, pain relief, stress management, professional standards and practice management.

This comprehensive course provides instruction and clinical practice in manicuring, nail building (application and maintenance of artificial nails) and pedicuring. The course content includes nail anatomy, disorders of nails, and irregularities of nails; theory and salesmanship as it relates to manicuring; actual practice in manicuring; and arm, hand, and foot massage. Manicurist students must complete 300 hours in an approved beauty school or college before applying to the State Board of Cosmetic Arts for examination. Students enrolled only in manicuring shall only perform services directly relating to the prescribed course in manicuring. Please note, this is a comprehensive course to provide training for those persons interested in becoming registered manicurists only and not desiring to become licensed cosmetologists.

Natural Hair Care Specialist is a 360-hour course designed to teach how to care for natural hair without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. The style techniques include braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending and locking natural hair. The coursework also include teaching the proper health, safety, and sanitation procedures to avoid spreading infections. The students will be able to apply their skills to clients who visit the clinic. After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art’s exam to become a licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist.

This course is designed to prepare graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis on aging process including mental, social and physical needs of the elderly, patient’s rights, nutrition management, elimination procedures, safe environment, restorative services, personal and special care procedures and activities, human body structure and function and related common disease/disorders, communication and documentation, death and dying, and roles of the nursing assistant and health team members. A skill/competency evaluation is required. The course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide I by the N.C. Division of Facility Services.

Nurse Aide Continuing Education

This course is designed to provide a review of the Nurse Aide I core content to prepare individuals who have been or are currently listed on a Nurse Aide I Registry, have successfully completed a state-approved training program, hold a state recognized health care credential from any state as or military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training to sit for the Nurse Aide I State Exam. The course is a minimum of forty (40) hours and must include the following Nurse Aide I curriculum content: Basic Nursing Skills, Personal Care Skills, Recognition of Mental Health and Social Service Needs, Care of Cognitively Impaired Residents, Basic Restorative Services and Resident Rights. Lab activities are required but clinical rotations are optional. Nurse Aide I Refresher programs must be approved by the Division of Health Service Regulations (DHSR).
