Associate in Science

RCC’s Associate in Science program is an excellent degree choice for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in math, science, natural or physical science, or medicine. Areas of study under the AS degree span a wide range of academic interests. Completing an Associate in Science degree can be your first step toward a bachelor’s degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field.

Transfer Institutions

Students earning an Associate in Science degree from RCC have transferred to one of the sixteen University of North Carolina institutions such as

A high school diploma (or equivalent) and satisfactory scores on college placement tests (or equivalent) in English and mathematics are required. If students have deficiencies in English and/or mathematics, RCC offers pre-college courses to prepare students for the Associate in Science curriculum.

Graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer with junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions.

The Associate in Science program is designed for students who wish to transfer to four-year colleges or universities to complete a baccalaureate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The program concentrates heavily on the natural sciences and mathematics and is recommended for those who plan to continue a Bachelor of Science degree program.
