Associate in Arts

The Associate in Arts program is designed to strengthen students’ background in the humanities and fine arts. Students who earn an Associate in Arts degree plan to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a baccalaureate degree in areas such as education, sociology, history, political science, and music.

Requirements

A high school diploma (or equivalent) and satisfactory scores on college placement tests (or equivalent) in English and mathematics are required. If students have deficiencies in English and/or mathematics, RCC offers pre-college courses to prepare students for the Associate in Arts curriculum.

Graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer with junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions. Students are responsible for examining the program major requirements of the four-year institution to which they plan to transfer for completion of their degree.

Online Program

This program is available online, using the college’s learning management system, faculty present lectures and interact with students through discussion forums or online office hours.

Our online programs provide maximum schedule flexibility, allowing you to enhance your current workplace skills or prepare for a new career. Particularly critical for students unable to attend campus-based classes due to geography, work schedules, or other life circumstances, RCC’s online education options provide a path to a better work/life balance.

To be eligible, students’ placement test scores must place them out of pre-college courses. Interested students should direct questions to the Admissions Office. email: admissions@robeson.edu.

Associate In Arts (AA)

The AA degree requires 60-61 credit hours. Under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement, this degree enables transferring RCC graduates to receive junior status if the graduates meet certain criteria. It allows students to take the first two years of their baccalaureate degree and transfer to one of the 16 institutions in the UNC system. To graduate with this degree, students must complete all required CAA courses with a grade of “C” or better and earn at least a 2.0 overall GPA. Students are advised to take ACA 122- College Transfer Success in their first or second semester and create a plan of study.
