Mission of the SOAR Center:
The purpose of The Student Orientation, Advising, and Retention (SOAR) Center at Robeson Community College is to provide students with additional assistance and resources to enhance their academic success, as well as to promote self-directed learning and decision-making; build confidence and motivation; and develop a greater appreciation for education and learning.
Location: Library – 422
Center Hours: Mon – Thurs: 8 AM until 5 PM, Fri: 8 AM until 3 PM
Summer: Mon – Thurs: 7:30 AM until 5:30 PM, Fri: Closed
Your First Stop: Admissions
Before you can meet with an advisor, you’ll need to complete a few steps through Admissions.
Start here:
- Complete the college application
- Complete the FAFSA application
- Speak with an Admissions Specialist
- Receive your student ID number
- Be assigned an Academic Advisor
Once these steps are complete, you’re ready for advising.
Meet With Your Academic Advisor
Academic Advisors are located in the Library.
Your advisor will help you with:
- Understanding the requirements for your degree or program
- Reviewing what courses are offered for the current semester, including prerequisites and workload expectations
- Deciding how many courses to take based on work, family responsibilities, and financial aid requirements
- Completing course registration
Your advisor’s role is to help you build a schedule that makes sense for your goals and your life.

Pre-Health Programs:
Students interested in Pre-Health programs should visit Ms. Stephanie McNeil in Building 17 for advising specific to those pathways
