FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                    July 3, 2025

LUMBERTON, N.C. – Robeson Community College is stepping up to the plate with a triple play of talent, announcing three baseball commitments to the inaugural team. With the signing of Jacob Benbow, Emilio Urquilla, and Garrett Secrist, RCC’s baseball program is officially rounding the bases.

These three student-athletes represent the perfect combination of academic drive, athletic determination, and personal ambition—marking a strong start to what promises to be a historic season for RCC baseball.

Leading off the triple play is Jacob Benbow, a senior from Grimsley High School in Greensboro, NC. Jacob plans to major in Political Science with aspirations of becoming an immigration and real estate lawyer. His leadership on and off the field makes him a promising addition to RCC’s new program.

Batting second is Emilio Urquilla, a senior from Palmetto High School in Pelzer, SC. Emilio will major in Business Management and dreams of becoming an MLB pitcher and future business owner. His commitment to excellence and entrepreneurial spirit align with the core values of Robeson Community College’s growing athletics program.

Closing out the triple play is Garrett Secrist, a senior from West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, NC. Garrett plans to major in Finance and is committed to developing as a ballplayer while building a strong academic foundation. His focus and work ethic make him a valuable part of RCC’s first-ever baseball roster.

These three commits represent the type of well-rounded student-athletes we are proud to welcome to RCC. They are laying the foundation for what will be a historic first season of baseball at RCC. Robeson Community College’s baseball program will begin with recruits like Benbow, Urquilla, and Secrist, the team is set to make an immediate impact on and off the field.

With this triple play of talent, the future looks bright.
