RCC’s Stephanie McNeill graduates from NCCCS Advising Leadership Academy
Stephanie McNeill, the health science enrollment coordinator for Robeson Community College recently graduated from the North Carolina Community College System Advising Leadership Academy. It’s an honor that only a select few state employees ever get a chance to do.
“The fact that someone recommended me to be a part of the academy, that was the biggest thing,” stated Stephanie McNeill. “It was a great opportunity; it was very nice and pleasant experience.”
During the academy, McNeill was able to travel to different community colleges.
“We went to Richmond Community College, Edgecombe Community College, and Caldwell Community College,” McNeill said. “We also had two virtual conferences.”
As part of the last leadership retreat held at the system office, McNeill says they had to make a presentation on something they hoped would get implemented at their college to help students succeed. McNeill made a presentation on how health science students who are unable to complete their program of study, could still receive some type of credential for the work they did finish.
“Maybe it’s a degree, diploma or certificate,” McNeill said. “I made the case and did the presentation, so maybe that will make a difference.”
McNeill says the academy was time well spent, saying “it helped me get ideas that I could bring back to Robeson Community College… I would recommend the academy to others, it was a great opportunity to network and meet with other coaches and advisors who do similar work, and piggy back off them to share ideas.”
McNeill is a graduate of the Associate Degree Nursing program at Robeson Community College and has a heart for working with students. McNeill went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and received a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Science. McNeill then went on to earn a master’s degree in science education, also from UNCP. Before gaining employment at Robeson Community College six years ago, McNeill taught high school science for 3 years and also worked with Hospice as an HR Manager.
