Suicide Prevention Awareness Event

September 9 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

LUMBERTON, NC – Robeson Community College is proud to recognize September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, promoting mental health resources, and fostering a supportive community environment. This year’s theme, Together in Strength, Dignity, Hope, and Purpose, highlights the importance of standing together to provide support, understanding, and encouragement for those experiencing mental health challenges.

In honor of this month, RCC will host a Suicide Prevention Awareness event on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the main campus outdoors in the quad. The event will feature informational resource tables, access to RCC Counseling and Career Services representatives, and local food and beverage vendors offering items for sale.

Attendees are encouraged to wear purple and/or teal in support of suicide prevention awareness. RCC invites the public to join students, faculty, and staff in this important event to learn about mental health resources, engage with the community, and show solidarity for those impacted by mental health challenges.

Robeson Community College Counseling and Career Services will be available on-site to provide information, guidance, and support to students and community members.

“Suicide prevention is a shared responsibility that requires awareness, education, and connection,” said Ms. Samantha Oxendine, Director of Advising, Counseling & Career Services. “At RCC, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where students, staff, and community members can access the resources they need and know they are not alone. By coming together in strength, dignity, hope and purpose, we can make a difference in the lives of those struggling with mental health challenges.”

RCC encourages community members to take part in this event, engage with local mental health resources, and join the conversation around mental wellness. Together, we can raise awareness, reduce stigma, and provide hope for those in need.
