Native American Heritage Month Celebration

Robeson Community College (RCC) is pleased to announce its annual Native American Heritage Month Celebration, set to take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Quad (Behind Library). This year’s theme, “Honoring Our Past, Soaring into the Future,” invites the guests to reflect on tradition, celebrate culture, and look ahead to the promise of tomorrow.
The day will begin with a formal opening ceremony recognizing Native American Heritage Month, followed by the posting of the colors by the Lumbee Warriors Association, a traditional flag song, and the National Anthem. These opening traditions serve as powerful symbols of respect, honor, and resilience. This event provides students, faculty, staff, and guests with the opportunity to learn about Native American history through education, cultural demonstrations, and community engagement.
Throughout the program, the Lumbee Ambassadors will be in attendance to introduce themselves and share their platforms, offering attendees an opportunity to learn more about youth leadership within the community. Remarks will also be provided by Robeson Community College President Melissa Singler and guest speaker Sandon Jacobs of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe. Their messages will reflect the importance of culture, education, and unity.
Following the opening remarks, the event will transition into a powwow exhibition featuring dancers and singers from the Lumbee Tribe of NC and other tribes present. Performers will demonstrate various powwow dance styles and songs, while providing educational insight into their cultural meanings and origins. Guests can expect an engaging experience that honors tradition.
In addition to performances, a variety of food and craft vendors will be onsite, contributing to the cultural marketplace atmosphere. Guest will have the opportunity to enjoy offerings from CQue, Lumbee Blooming Onion, McNeil’s, Hunts, The Wing Company, and more. Craft vendors, including Nicole’s Crafts, Six Feathers, Black Water Soap Works, and Sewing Bees will offer handmade goods that showcase local artistry and craftsmanship.
Robeson Community College is delighted to welcome students from local surrounding counties who will attend as part of school-sponsored visits. This celebration supports the college’s mission to connect education, culture, and community, providing meaningful opportunities from learning beyond the classroom.
For many, this event offers a unique experience that blends cultural pride, tradition, and community connection. Attendees leave with a deeper understanding of Native American culture.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Join us as we honor the past, engage with the present, and look toward the future, together. Everyone is welcome!
