Forensic Science and Criminal Justice Summer Camp

Dates: June 17-20, 2024

Age range: Rising 9th -11th graders

The camp will be free of charge. However, students will need to bring their own lunch.

 

The Forensic Science and Criminal Justice Summer Camp offers an immersive experience into the world of law enforcement and forensic investigation. Here’s a breakdown of the exciting activities and learning opportunities participants can expect:

  1. Law Enforcement Drone Operation: Campers will dive into the cutting-edge field of drone technology as it pertains to law enforcement. They’ll learn the basics of drone operation, including flight controls, aerial photography, and data collection techniques. They’ll explore how drones are used in surveillance, search and rescue missions, and crime scene analysis.
  2. Helicopter Operation: Participants will get an up-close look at the role of helicopters in law enforcement operations. They’ll learn about helicopter safety protocols, navigation systems, and the unique challenges of airborne law enforcement. Through demonstrations and simulations, they’ll gain insight into how helicopters support ground units in pursuits, surveillance, and emergency response scenarios.
  3. Mock Crime Scene Case: Campers will step into the shoes of forensic investigators as they unravel a thrilling mock crime scene case. Working in teams, they’ll apply forensic techniques such as fingerprint analysis, DNA sampling, and evidence collection to crack the case. They’ll learn to think critically, analyze clues, and piece together the evidence to identify suspects and solve the mystery.
  4. Driving Simulator: In the driving simulator lab, participants will put their skills to the test in high-pressure law enforcement driving scenarios. From pursuit driving to navigating hazardous road conditions, they’ll learn the importance of situational awareness, vehicle control, and decision-making under stress. With realistic simulations and expert guidance, they’ll hone their driving skills for the challenges of law enforcement.
  5. Firearms Simulator: Campers will undergo virtual firearms training using state-of-the-art simulators. They’ll learn firearm safety protocols, marksmanship fundamentals, and tactical decision-making in dynamic scenarios. 
  6. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): Safety and lifesaving skills are paramount in law enforcement. Participants will receive hands-on training in CPR techniques, including chest compressions, rescue breathing, and AED usage. They’ll learn to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies and provide crucial aid until professional medical help arrives.

By participating in the Forensic Science and Criminal Justice Summer Camp, students will gain valuable insights into the diverse field of law enforcement and forensic science. Through hands-on activities, simulations, and expert instruction, they’ll develop practical skills and knowledge that can pave the way for a rewarding career in criminal justice.
