Electrical Systems Technology and Industrial Systems Technology Bridge Program

 

This Is Not a Transfer Program.

The BR, or Bridge program is intended for students who may be interested in pursuing a four-year degree in this field. THIS IS NOT A TRANSFER PROGRAM. However, the selection of Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) courses will reduce the number of additional courses required for admission to the four-year institution. Before selecting this program, contact the four-year institution(s) in which you are interested to verify entrance requirements.

Admission to these programs require prior approval from the Dean – Public Service and Applied Technology.

CAREER OPTIIONS

Graduates of the Electrical Systems Technology Bridge Program have opportunities in many areas of business maintaining and servicing Electrical/Electronic equipment including: Industrial, Residential, Commercial, Military, Computer, Consumer, Communications, Biomedical, Construction. 

Students enrolled in the Associate Degree program as full time students will complete the program in two years. The purpose of the Electrical Systems Technology program is to train students to install and maintain Electrical and Electronic equipment and systems. But we also go one step further. You will be trained to troubleshoot and repair those systems when they malfunction, making you a well rounded technician.

This program is designed to provide maximum flexibility for career choices. Graduates may fill a number of available positions including:

  • Electrician
  • Electronics Technician
  • Maintenance Technician
  • Electrical Technician
  • Power Plant Technician
  • Field Service Technician
  • Construction Electrician
  • Instrumentation and Controls Technician
  • Automation Technician

Graduates of the Industrial Systems Technology curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to service, maintain, repair or install equipment. Instructions include theory and skills training needed for testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial equipment.

Electrical Systems Technology Bridge Program

The Electrical Technology curriculum is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial and industrial facilities.

Course work, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, digital electronics, programmable logic controllers, industrial motor controls, the National Electric Code, and other subjects as local needs require.

Graduates should qualify for a variety of jobs in the electrical field as an on-the-job trainee or apprentice, assisting in the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems.

The Electrical Systems Technology AAS Degree is a 68-credit hour program. There is a basic core of 53 credit hours. The program also consists of 15 general education credit hours and six credit hours of additional track courses.

Industrial Systems Technology Bridge Program

The Industrial Systems Technology curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to safely service, maintain, repair, or install equipment. Instruction includes theory and skill training needed for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing industrial systems.

Students will learn multi-craft technical skills in print reading, mechanical systems maintenance, electricity, hydraulics/pneumatics, welding, machining or fabrication, and includes various diagnostic and repair procedures. Practical application in these industrial systems will be emphasized and additional advanced course work may be offered.

Upon completion of this curriculum, graduates should be able to individually, or with a team, safely install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial process and support equipment. Students will also be encouraged to develop their skills as life-long learners.

The Industrial Systems Technology AAS Degree is a 66-credit hour program. There is a basic core of 49 credit hours. The program also consists of 15 general education credit hours and six credit hours of additional track courses.
