Workforce and Continuing Education sponsor 23 children during holidays

Although the holidays have passed, we thought we would share this story of kindness which is sure to warm your hearts during these cold days of the winter season.

In December, staff members at Robeson Community College in the Workforce and Continuing Education division got together to brainstorm ways they could help make a difference during the Christmas season.

In the spirit of giving, and with a love for children, the team wanted to help kids in need by making their Christmas full of joy.

“Let’s participate in the Angel Tree Toy Drive,” one staff member said as the idea came to them.

The Angel Tree Toy Drive is a project coordinated during the holidays by the Department of Social Services, providing gifts to children.

“That’s a great idea, we should definitely do that to help assist children in need in Robeson County,” said another.

And now, it has become an annual tradition.

The division voted in unison to adopt children in this program during the month of December for the second year in a row.

Through their efforts led by Christy Locklear, the senior director of the division, the staff members were able to collect enough toys to sponsor 23 children this year, making Christmas morning a memorable, magical experience for many families in Robeson County. It was enough toys to fill two vans from DSS.

“The kindness our continuing education staff have shown will surely help to make a difference for generations to come,” stated RCC President Melissa Singler. “For kindness changes everything… it can change the world.”
