Two Students Participate in Student Leadership Development Program

Robeson Community College students, Miranda Lowery Jones, and Brittany Maynor participated in the NC Community College System’s 2019-20 Student Leadership Development Program on June 2-7 at William Peace University in Raleigh. A total of 28 community college students participated in workshops, group & individual projects and several presentations from various guest speakers. The program will continue with two additional two-day sessions in Fall ‘19 and Spring ‘20.

“This experience has been a challenging but rewarding experience. I’ve met numerous people from the President of the NC Community College System to other wonderful mentors and staff. During this time, we were paired in groups based on our personality type and strengths to do a group project. I was challenged to work with many introverts and it was definitely hard, given that I’m an extrovert. The program has taught me leadership experiences that I am able to share with my campus and students in hopes to enhance opportunities for my college. This was an honor and I am so glad I was chosen.” Brittany reflected.

To be eligible for the program, students must be enrolled at a North Carolina community college and have at least one full year of study remaining. Students are nominated by college administrators and then screened by a selection committee. Students must commit for one year and to arrange or facilitate at least two workshops on their campus or in their community.
