The BAT Mobile is coming to RCC

The BAT mobile is coming to Robeson Community College!

No, it’s not the fictional car driven by the Superhero Batman. And, no, it doesn’t get parked in the Batcave. But like the Batmobile, this mobile unit is used to fight crimes and helps to keep people safe.

It has more ‘Superhero’ qualities and futuristic capabilities than anything you could see in the movies, so much so that even Bruce Wayne himself and all those in the DC Universe would be impressed.

Do you know what it is?!?!

It’s the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit and with its sophisticated set up, it goes out looking for drunk drivers all across the State, from checkpoint to checkpoint.

The BAT Mobile Unit is a highly visible deterrent against impaired driving, helping to keep people safe on the roads, kind of like the Kitt Car from Knightrider, if you can remember that far back.

Coordinators for the BAT mobile unit provide support and resources to North Carolina Law Enforcement at DWI checking stations. They also serve as an educational resource at outreach events, such as RCC’s Homecoming, that allow the public to learn more about the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and driving while impaired.

The BAT mobile will be at RCC on Tuesday, October 4 during the “Home of the Brave” celebration, which will also feature various other military and emergency vehicles along with a friendly tug-of-war competition at 12:00 p.m.

Tours will be available for students and the general public. Admission is free as you make RCC your Home. Sweet. Home.

In case you are wondering what exactly is inside the BAT mobile unit, it includes a variety of tools and resources for law enforcement including:

  • Forensic tests for alcohol
  • On site magistrate’s court to process arrestees
  • Officer Workstations
  • Finger printing kit
  • Wireless Printer
  • High Intensity Light Towers
  • Alcohol Screening Test Devices
  • Cellular Phones
  • Wi-Fi hotspots

The BAT Mobile Unit program is sponsored in conjunction with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the NCDHHS, and North Carolina Public Health, and is a part of the ‘Booze It & Lose It’ campaign.
