Mr. Ronald Oxendine Shines Spotlight on Electrical Lineman Program and Rodeo Event on 100.9 FM.
Robeson Community College’s Mr. Ronald Oxendine, Director of Customized Training, CDL and Lineman Program, recently sat down with 100.9 FM to introduce himself and to discuss one of the college’s most dynamic and impactful training offerings. Mr. Oxendine emphasized the uniqueness of RCC’s Electrical Lineman Program, which offers hands-on, industry-relevant training that prepares students for essential roles in the utility sector.
One of the most exciting aspects of the program is the annual Electrical Lineman Rodeo, a signature event that showcases the talent and dedication of RCC’s students. “It’s an opportunity for industry leaders to come and take a look at what the students are learning on a daily basis,” Oxendine shared. This year’s rodeo featured events such as speed climbing, hurt man rescues, and equipment handling challenges. “Each student gets a chance to participate in the activities. There are four major activities that take place. They are timed and it’s a part of their grading system and then their overall grade for the class,” Oxendine stated. Among the highlights were standout performances by several students who exhibited exceptional speed and precision, reinforcing the high level of training offered at RCC.
As the college looks ahead, the next cohort for the Electrical Lineman Program is scheduled to begin soon. “Our cohort 4 class will begin on June 4th with a total of 24 students. However, for anyone interested, the cohort 5 class will begin in September with registration online. There will not be a waitlist beginning with this cohort,” Oxendine encouraged. With growing demand for skilled linemen across the region, the program offers not just an education, but a direct pathway to a rewarding and essential career.
