RCC kicks off holidays during Lumberton Christmas Parade
The holiday season has officially begun in Robeson County.
On Saturday, November 19, Robeson Community College took part in the Lumberton Christmas Parade, an annual tradition for the school. Several students, faculty, and staff filled the RCC float, which was decorated glittery red and gold, with trimmings of green and silver.
As the float made its way down Elm Street and through the historic district, RCC staff dressed as elves passed out candy to children and flyers on the basic law enforcement academy, which starts January 9.
Ahead of the float was RCC President Melissa Singler with her husband Michael Singler. They rode in the RCC BLET cruiser, which was driven by Rudy T. Locklear, the director of the basic law enforcement and criminal justice programs. President Singler was seen waving to children and giving them candy as the car made its way down through procession.
With much cooler temperatures hovering over the area, it felt like more like a winter wonderland, helping to get people in the holiday spirit as they waited for the main attraction, Santa Claus, to make his way through town.
The Lumberton Christmas Parade is known as the first holiday parade to take place in North Carolina each year, making it the official kickoff of the holiday season.
