RCC hosts Valentine’s Day Luncheon for Lumberton Rotary Club

Robeson Community College was honored to host the 2023 Valentine’s Day Luncheon today for the Lumberton Rotary Club, District 7730.

RCC Culinary Arts students prepared an exquisite meal for the event, which included parmesan basil grilled chicken; BBQ Spiced Pork loin with roasted corn, red onion confit, and BBQ sauce; herb roasted baby red potatoes; sautéed vegetable medley, and an amazing milk chocolate two-layer cake with chocolate buttercream and heart dragees.

Rotary member Alan Avant and the RCC Foundation helped to coordinate the event. Avant spoke briefly, welcoming guests and introducing speakers – RCC President Melissa Singler, Mike Hardin, and Mariah Graham.

“We are so thankful to have you all here today on our campus,” stated Singler. “RCC is continuing to grow and it is because of your support. We could not do it without you, so thank you for all that you do for RCC and our community.”

Mike Hardin spoke briefly about “What is Love?” giving several perspectives on the subject with quotes ranging from John Lennon to Martin Luther King Jr. to words spoken by Jesus Christ as recorded in scripture. He then provided the blessing over the food.

Mariah Graham, a first-year student at RCC provided entertainment, singing several love songs starting with a rendition of Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley. Her performance was met with a standing ovation.

Rose Avant assisted with drawing a name for the Valentine’s Day prize. Chasity Skusa, the RCC Alumni Specialist was the winner.

“It was an honor to host the Rotary Club Valentine’s Day Luncheon,” stated Singler. “Our culinary students did an excellent job and we hope you enjoyed the meal they prepared. We wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Avant thanked RCC for use of its facility, the culinary students, and the staff for their assistance in making the event possible.
