Photo by RCC Student Shaiquita Jackson captures winter’s beauty

With recent cooler temperatures, this year the Spring season quietly arrived. With Summer just around the corner, one photo by RCC student Shaiquita Jackson helps us to remember the beauty of winter’s past.

Jackson recently won the 2nd annual Cultural Events Photo Contest.

As they say, a photo is worth a thousand words, and that’s why Jackson’s entry of “The Beauty of Winter” captured the hearts and minds of judges.

“This picture was taken in the field across from my house,” Jackson stated. “In the morning, it is most beautiful as the sun begins to rise. This picture is a beautiful sunrise over a frost-covered ground.”

The simplicity of the photo not only seized the essence of how the winter season looks and feels during the cold months of December, January, and February, but also how each season displays beauty in its own unique way.

“The purpose of the contest was to allow students to capture their regional beauty and share what they thought made winter such a beautiful time of the year before it disappeared to make way for spring,” said Sherry Lofton, an English instructor at RCC and also the chair of the Cultural Events Committee.

As the winner, Jackson received a $50 check for her entry in the contest.
