NC Secretary and State CIO Jim Weaver to speak October 3 at RCC

Learn about the State of Cyber Security in North Carolina during a special lecture by guest speaker James “Jim” Weaver, the secretary and state chief information officer on Tuesday, October 3. The event will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the ADL Auditorium located in Building 15 on the main campus of Robeson Community College.

Weaver joined the NC Department of IT in March 2021 with more than 30 years of leadership and management in the IT industry. As the Secretary and CIO for the State of North Carolina, Weaver leads the agency responsible for strategic IT planning and the procurement and delivery of IT services and solutions. Weaver has sought to expand broadband access and affordability across North Carolina, bringing hope of internet access to thousands who are currently without.

Weaver holds numerous ITIL certifications and earned his Certified Government Chief Information Officer qualification from Harrisburg University. He is an active member of the U.S. Armed Forces, previously serving in the Army National Guard in Washington and Pennsylvania and currently serving in North Carolina.

The lecture at Robeson Community College is a celebration of raising awareness of cybersecurity during the month of October and is made possible thanks to the NSF/ATE RCC Cyberconnect grant #2100012 awarded to RCC in 2021.

Weaver will be accompanied by State Chief Risk Officer Torry Crass, who has more than 25 years of experience in IT and more than a decade of focused work on cybersecurity in a global enterprise environment and is recognized as a subject matter expert in digital infrastructures and IT security.
