Lieutenant Colonel Lindsay D. Freeman named as RCC’s 2024 Commencement Speaker

Robeson Community College is pleased to announce that Lieutenant Colonel Lindsay D. Freeman will serve as its Commencement speaker for the 2024 graduation.

Lieutenant Colonel Lindsay D. Freeman currently serves as the Commander of the 33d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. She commands 475 Airmen spanning five distinct career fields, in maintaining 53 F-35A aircraft valued at $6.15B in support of pilot and maintainer development for all future F-35 training and combat units.

Prior to her current assignment, she completed the Air Force’s Strategic Communications Fellowship at George Mason University, where she earned a Master of Arts in Communication, and served as a Strategic Communications Planner for the Secretary of the Air Force’s Public Affairs Staff. Her education however spans over two decades, with first earning a bachelor of science in legal studies from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as well as many specialized certifications through the Air Force. She also completed a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Oklahoma.

Lt Col Freeman’s service has taken her all over world with assignments that include the United States Air Force Academy, Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Texas, George Mason University in Virginia, and the United States Air Force Headquarters at the Pentagon in Virginia. She received her commission from the United States Air Force Academy in 2007 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. She has deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Unified Protector, and Enduring Freedom.

As a decorated officer, her major awards and decorations include Meritorious Service Medal with One Device, Air Force Commendation Medal with Four Devices, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award with Two Devices, AF Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Three Devices, Iraq Campaign Medal with One Device, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air & Space Campaign Medal, and the NATO Medal.

A native of Fairmont, Lt Col Freeman is the proud mother of three children – Fynnegan, Arlington “Boonie” and Leif and is looking forward to returning home to Robeson County.

Lt Col Freeman is set to speak during the college’s two indoor ceremonies that will take place on May 8 on the main campus in Lumberton. The first ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the second ceremony will start at 4:00 p.m.

Approximately 350 students are expected to walk across the stage to become graduates of Robeson Community College. Graduating students will receive official notification as to which ceremony they should attend. With limited seating available, prospective graduates will be provided tickets for family and other guests who wish to attend.
