Cookout brings together Military Affiliated students, faculty, and staff

As part of the good news of the day, Robeson Community College recently held a cookout for its military affiliated students, faculty, and staff.

The cookout was sponsored but the American Legion Post 42. Due to calls for rain in the forecast, the cookout moved indoors, but the grilling continued with the help of RCC Chef Guy Forsberg from Culinary Arts.

“Chef Forsberg grilled the hotdogs on the indoor grill to provide that cookout taste,” stated Allen Tencati, the assistant director of financial aid and veterans services. “We had about 30 military affiliated attendees… there was a lot of great fellowship and networking among the participants.”

Post 42 Commander Raymond Hunt, along with other Post 42 members served the hotdogs.

The event concluded with a drawing for a $100.00 gas card. Jacqueline Hill, a military affiliated student, pulled the winning ticket.

“And the winner is…Ignacio Gomez,” Hill exclaimed.

The gas card was presented to Gomez by Post 42 Adjutant and RCC English faculty member Sherry Lofton.

“I joined the world’s greatest Air Force in November of last year. I enlisted as a reservist to complete my academic objectives. My plan is to take a voluntary deployment after I finish my education at Robeson Community College,” stated Gomez. “At the moment, I’m attending RCC to work for an associate degree in applied science. Radiography is my area of study here, and I intend to continue my education at nearby universities in the future.”

The Military Affiliated Resource Center, or MARC, is available for military affiliated students, faculty, staff, and organizations. For more information, please contact Allen Tencati, Assistant Director of Financial Aid & Veteran Services at atencati@robeson.edu, 910-272-3350.
