
Emergency Medical Services
Robeson Community College provides an array of classes to meet the market demand for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). In this exciting field of study, you will learn how to properly assess a patient, provide acute care in the emergency setting, identify and modify illness and injury risks, provide acute illness and slip and fall injuries care. EMS is a critical component of the nation’s healthcare system. The job market awaits each of our graduates with open arms. Robeson Community College is excited to have you join one of our progressive classes in EMS.
Costs
All registration fees must be paid before a student is considered registered for a course. In addition, students are required to purchase textbooks and educational materials. Paramedic courses have additional expenses and fees for uniforms, criminal background checks, drug testing, immunizations, fit testing, tuberculosis screening, clinical site transportation, and liability and health insurance. All fees must be paid prior to announced deadlines.
FINANCIAL AID, FEE WAIVERS, AND EMPLOYER REIMBURSEMENT
Non-degree continuing education classes are not covered by financial aid. If you are an active volunteer or work with an EMS provider, fire department, or law enforcement agency, you may qualify for a registration fee waiver. Please call 910-272-3371 for additional information concerning such waivers. Also, consult with your department representative, company officer, or supervisor to learn if other agency-provided financial aid is available. Some companies purchase students’ textbooks or reimburse certain expenses upon completion of an educational program.

The Robeson Community College Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services
Professions (CoAEMSP Executive Office). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient
compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation.
Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT’s Paramedic credentialing examination(s).
However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.

Taught at the National Registry Level
The EMT Initial class is a foundation class that introduces the student to the world of Emergency Medical Science. This course exposes the student to patient assessment, managing trauma and medical issues that arises within the populace. The student will learn the skills to splint a potential fractured bone, assist with breathing, perform CPR and bandage wounds that occur among a multitude of other skills.
a. With completion of this class the student will be able to test for their Emergency Medical Technician Certificate at the State and/or National level.
b. With completion of this class and successfully passing the State(NCOEMS) or National Registry test, the student can enter a Paramedic Course.

The AEMT Initial class is an advanced class that builds on the foundation of the EMT class. This class introduces cardiac rhythms, Intravenous Therapy, intubation and medication administration.
- With completion of this class the student will be able to test for their Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certificate at the State and/or National level.

The Paramedic Initial class brings the student into full focus. In this course, the student will continue to build upon the knowledge they have learned. The class will expand the students skill set for patient assessment, medication administration, intubations and cardiology. The student will also learn new procedures, such as, needle decompression, cardiac pacing and converting lethal arrhythmias. The student will learn how to analyze, identify and treat a variety of rhythms, including interpreting 12 leads.

Description: Community Paramedicine is an emerging healthcare delivery model that increases access to basic services through the use of specialty trained EMS providers in an expanded role.
