Blood supply lowest in 20 years – Give blood October 30, receive $50 in rewards

As relief efforts continue in North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, there’s probably one item you haven’t considered donating but that is greatly needed – blood.

The supply of blood has dwindled significantly in the wake of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, and help is needed. Hurricane Debby also interrupted many blood drives across the South, contributing to the lowest blood supply in 20 years.

Hospitals are using blood faster than blood banks can collect. Many blood drives have been scheduled around the region in response to the shortage, but getting donors to come out is proving to be a challenge.

That’s why The Blood Connections is offering a $50 reward to all donors who give on blood Wednesday, October 30th at Robeson Community College. The drive will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Initially designed with a Halloween theme, the ‘Fangtastic’ drive will be held in the parking lot behind Building 6, which is on the west side of campus. Appointments can be scheduled by visiting http://bit.ly/sponsor_tbc.

If you would like to do your part and help make a difference, please consider giving the gift of life at RCC’s upcoming blood drive at RCC. If you cannot make it to RCC, please consider giving at another location that may be more convenient for you, as blood cannot be manufactured and it cannot be stockpiled. Inventory levels can only be maintained and supplied by donors who give consistently.
