BLET program at RCC receives $15,000 worth of equipment

The Criminal Justice and Basic Law Enforcement Training programs at Robeson Community College received an early Christmas present this year. The division received brand-new equipment that will be used during labs and training exercises at the college.

“We are so appreciative of this donation, and we thank the donor that provided this to our college for our students,” said Rudy Locklear, the director of the criminal justice and BLET programs at RCC. “This donation will be transformational for our program and we are excited that we will have this equipment as an added resource for our students moving forward. The purchase of these training tools would have cost RCC approximately $15,000.”

The equipment included 16 new millennium series full face gas masks and 16 new chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) canisters, all of which were donated to the college by an anonymous donor.

The gas masks and CBRN canisters can protect law enforcement from a variety of respiratory hazards, and are typically used during riots, and will provide cadets with an opportunity to experience the headgear first-hand, providing them valuable experience and training.

“Our classrooms are not just made up of desks and textbooks, they are labs in real life settings conducted in real time, by highly qualified instructors. We strive to give our students real life experiences similar to what they will experience on the job,” said RCC President Melissa Singler. “Having this equipment during the training exercises may help to save the life of an officer one day, and for that, we are extremely grateful to the donor who has graciously provided this equipment for our students.”
