14 LCI Inmates Complete HSE Certificate Program

A total of 14 men graduated with a High School Equivalency Certificate on Thursday, June 13 at Lumberton Correctional Institute. Eight of the graduates were in attendance for the ceremony, and for the first time in the program’s history, family members were allowed to attend.

This program is provided by College and Career Readiness at Robeson Community College. Participation is optional, and the program, boasts a 75% increase in participation from the previous year.

Commencement speaker, Mark Hunt, shared his own experience and offered advice to the graduates. “You can’t predict obstacles, you just have to decide how you’re going to respond to them.” Hunt serves as the Assistant Director of Academic Advising at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Thank you to the RCC and LCI faculty and staff, and the Community Resource Council for your continued support and efforts.
