RCC’s Trauma Rodeo to be held April 17
Trauma Rodeo is back and promises to be better than ever as students prepare for the supreme test of their knowledge and skills gained through a real-world, hands-on, live scenario featuring reality-based emergency situations on the campus of Robeson Community College.
The event will be held on April 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on RCC’s main campus in Lumberton, and activities and scenarios can be seen from from the lineman pole yard to the Health Sciences, Building 17.
The event will feature students from emergency medical services, associate degree and practical nursing, radiography, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, and medical sonography, as well as the electrical lineman program. These students will work together to create the scenarios, from the scene of the accident to the ambulance that will transport patients to the operating room, where decisions will be made about care, treatment, and examinations required, providing valuable lessons for students that will only serve to help them as they enter their chosen profession.
Physicians in residency at UNC Southeastern will also play a part in the activity, providing an even more realistic experience for students. RCC will provide in-depth coverage during the event on its Facebook page along with a follow up story highlighting the events of the day.
So, as you’re traveling down I-95 or on Fayetteville Road on April 17, please do not be alarmed if you see emergency vehicles, law enforcement, and possibly even a helicopter or two touching down at Robeson Community College. It’s a scheduled training exercise to give students at RCC more experience and training that they can draw from as they enter the workforce.
