Detention Officer Certification Course

The Sheriff’s Training & Standards Commission mandated Detention Officer Certification Course, as per Rule .0601 of the Administrative Code, requires a minimum of 174 hours of instruction. Robeson Community College offers an enhanced curriculum totaling 194 hours, including additional instruction and test time.
Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 20 years of age, a High School graduate or equivalent, completed medical examination by a licensed physician, certified criminal history from each county that the applicant has resided since the age of 16, and no felony or major misdemeanor charges. Target Audience:
- New Detention Officers employed by N.C. Sheriff’s Office
- Civilians interested in becoming Detention Officers with the N.C Sheriff’s Office
Registration Fees:
- Sworn Detention Officers: Registration Fee Waived, $10.00 Supply Fee
- Civilians: $180.00, plus $10.00 Supply Fee
Course Material Fee: $107.70 (payable to NC Justice Academy)
