Earn your high school diploma or high school equivalency, refresh your skills through adult basic education, or learn to speak English through RCC’s College & Career Readiness (CCR) Division.
CCR is a FREE educational program created specifically for adults. Each of the six targeted programs is designed to improve your reading, writing, functional mathematics, and communication skills so you can better achieve your goals in life as well as your career. C&CR is designed for flexibility to allow one to take classes without disrupting their work schedule.
The six programs that are offered are:
- AHS: Adult High School
- HSE: High School Equivalency (GED or HiSet)
- ABE: Adult Basic Education
- ESL: English as a Second Language
- ABET: Adult Basic Education Transition
All students are required to attend an orientation session before enrolling in classes.

Participation in the Adult High School (AHS) will not only grant students an opportunity to earn a high school diploma, but they will also become eligible to receive a Career Readiness Certificate and to enroll in Continuing Education Courses. Additionally, an AHS diploma grants students the ability to apply for enrollment to higher education campuses such as RCC and the University of North Carolina College System or to pursue a career with the United States Armed Forces.
Requirements
- Adults 18 years or older.
- Minors 16 and 17 years old meeting RCC criteria may be enrolled if they meet certain guidelines.
- Do not have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma
- Have a copy of an official transcript from their previous high school

The High School Equivalency (HSE) program at Robeson Community College prepares learners to successfully pass the HiSET and GED, two of the three nationally recognized high school equivalency exams. Passing any one of the assessments will lead to the same High School Equivalency Diploma issued by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. Additionally, a High School Equivalency diploma grants students the ability to apply for enrollment to higher education campuses such as RCC and the University of North Carolina College System or to pursue a career with the United States Armed Forces.

It’s the mission of the English Language Acquisition Program to provide the local community of English language learners with high-quality English Language Acquisition (ELA) instruction and orientation in U.S. culture. Through this program, English language learners will acquire the language skills needed for their personal, social, academic, and career goals.
Goals
- Students will acquire daily functioning knowledge of speaking, listening, reading, and writing the English language.
- Increase in student confidence in daily functioning within the larger community.
- Assimilation into the culture of the community
- Knowledge acquired at the most advanced level will give English language learners the ability to transition to higher levels of education and achieve greater career success.
Requirements
- Adults 18 years or older.
- Minors 16 and 17 years old meeting RCC criteria may be enrolled if they meet certain guidelines.
- Must attend Orientation to register for classes.
- All ELA students will be pre-tested with a standardized CASAS assessment. The results of the testing will determine placement into one of 3 levels:
- Beginning
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Adult Basic Education Transitions is committed to promoting educational and life skills opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. The goal of the program is to help individuals acquire the basic skills and abilities needed to (1) become more independent and self-directed and (2) meet and manage community, social, work, and personal adult responsibilities. Adult Basic Education Transitions offers attainable educational opportunities and potential transition to the Adult High School or High School Equivalency program and workforce preparation activities.
Requirements
- Adults 18 years or older.
- Documentation of an intellectual disability or traumatic brain injury signed by a physician, licensed psychiatrist, or licensed psychologist.
- Completion of the admissions process, which includes CASAS assessment and orientation.

Refresher courses are designed to help students who may have obtained a high school diploma but wish to improve skills in the following areas:
Computer: improve computer skills, ranging from basic computer operations to Microsoft Office suite products
Math: improve math skills ranging from basic operations to introduction to algebra
Reading: improve reading comprehension skills as well as basic grammar skills useful in writing
These skills can assist students as they continue their education, pursue career opportunities, as well as prepare them to help their children with schoolwork.

Before entering the College and Career Readiness Program, potential students must first take the CASAS placement test. Placement testing helps determine your academic needs and abilities so the college can place you in classes at the appropriate level. Click here for CASAS test practice. Students entering these programs will complete the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), which includes reading comprehension, and some programs require a math test. Please review the following links in preparation for the TABE:

PearsonVUE Center (GED)
To register for the GED®, visit MyGED® and set up an account. From this account, you will register and pay for your GED® testing. The cost is $26.00 per test for a total cost of $104.00.

HiSET
This pencil and paper high school equivalency test measures knowledge in writing, reading, math, science, and social studies. To register, go to hiset.ets.org and set up an account. From this account, you will register and pay for your HSE exam. The cost is $15.00 per test for a total cost of $75.00.
