RCC’s 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Sneakers & Tuxedo Ball to be held May 17
Dance the night away and help celebrate RCC’s 60th Anniversary during the Diamond Jubilee Sneakers and Tuxedo Ball on Saturday, May 17. The event promises to be a grand affair, making it one of the biggest events of the year in Robeson County, presented by Primary Health Choice, Inc.
“Our Sneakers and Tuxedo Ball will be the kickoff to our 60th Anniversary, and we are so excited about celebrating this momentous occasion with our friends, family, and neighbors in Robeson County,” stated Renee Collins, Vice President of the RCC Foundation. “This is going to be an amazing time to reflect upon our history and to prepare and plan for our future.”
The Sneakers and Tuxedo Ball will be held on the main campus of RCC, under a tent in the parking lot of Building 14 and 15 and will start at 6pm. There will be a full-service bar, dinner, and of course dancing. The event will feature the band, Champagne Pop, who will provide a dynamic mix of pop, funk, and soul packed with high-energy celebration and unforgettable moments to commemorate the 60th Anniversary. Sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels of giving, see website for details, and tickets for individuals can also be purchased online.
“The Diamond Jubilee Sneakers and Tuxedo Ball is going to be an event to remember as we launch our athletics program, marking another historic moment in the college’s history,” Singler added. “Robeson Community College was founded with the mission to serve students and our 60th Anniversary celebration will be an expression of that.”
During the Ball, the college will unveil its new mascot for its athletics team, the RCC Diamond Eagles.
“This will be quite a historic night as we continue to rally support for our new inaugural baseball and softball teams,” stated Singler. “All proceeds from the event will go towards our student athletic program.”
“Our new athletics program is in great need of everything from baseballs and helmets to pitching machines, uniforms and everything in between,” Collins added. “Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in the Fund-a-Need that will enhance our athletic program.”
Currently the college has twenty players who have committed to the inaugural baseball team, which boasts players from as far away as Texas, Tennessee, and all across North Carolina from the mountains to the sea.
“It’s been 60 years since Robeson Technical Institute was chartered off Barker Ten Mile Road in Lumberton. What is now Robeson Community College, started with just 22 students enrolled and has grown to be one of the premier sources for higher education in Southeastern North Carolina, serving more than 10,000 students annually, and that is something to celebrate,” stated Singler.
“So, I invite you to please come out and join us for an evening celebrating our academic excellence over the last two generations… it will truly be the most talked about event of the year,” Singler adds.
