RCC Security Engineer Honored with NC IIPS Outstanding Achievement Award

LUMBERTON, N.C. — Robeson Community College (RCC) proudly celebrates the accomplishments of Jonathan Edwards, Security Engineer, who has been recognized with the North Carolina Institutional Information Processing System (NC IIPS) Outstanding Achievement Award, one of the organization’s highest honors recognizing exceptional dedication, leadership, and service to the North Carolina Community College System.
Edwards was recognized for his commitment to advancing cybersecurity, strengthening collaboration among information technology professionals, and supporting colleagues throughout the state. His leadership and service have made a lasting impact within the NC IIPS community and reflect the high standards of excellence he brings to RCC.
“I was honestly shocked when I learned I had been selected,” Edwards said. “I never expected the work I do at RCC or my involvement with colleagues across the North Carolina Community College System to be recognized in this way. It’s incredibly humbling to know that my efforts have made a positive impact on others.”
As Security Engineer at RCC, Edwards works to protect the college’s technology systems, data, and digital resources from cybersecurity threats. His responsibilities included identifying and managing risks, implementing security controls, monitoring for suspicious activity, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards, and promoting security awareness throughout the institution.
Beyond his role at RCC, Edwards has played an active leadership role within NC IIPS, serving as Eastern Vice President (2019-2020), Executive Vice President (2021-2022), President (2022-2023), and Past President (2023-2024). He currently serves as Chair of the Standards Committee.
