Notary Public

This course is required for anyone interested in becoming a Notary Public for the first time. It is recommended for all notaries as a refresher course.

NCGS 10B-5(b) provides the following requirements to be commissioned as a Notary Public in NC:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age or legally emancipated as defined in Article 35 of Chapter 7B of the General Statutes.
  2. Reside or have a regular place of work or business in this State.
  3. Reside legally in the United States.
  4. Speak, read, and write the English language.
  5. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  6. Pass the course of instruction described in this Article, unless the person is a licensed member of the North Carolina State Bar.
  7. Purchase and keep as a reference the most recent manual approved by the Secretary that describes the duties and authority of notaries public.
  8. Submit an application containing no significant misstatement or omission of fact.

Students must provide current state or federal picture identification for admission to class.  The active-duty military and civilian ID cards DO NOT meet the identification requirements. 

NOTE:

Having a conviction for a misdemeanor or a felony in this, or any other state, within ten years of your date of application for the position of North Carolina Notary Public could cause denial of your commission application. If convicted of a crime that is a misdemeanor or felony, you must have successfully completed your sentence from the court and then had a ten-year period from the successful completion of the sentence prior to applying as a notary public. If you have questions about your criminal history and/or ability to be commissioned as an NC Notary Public please contact the Notary Public Section, the Department of the Secretary of State directly at 919-814-5400 or by email at notary@sosnc.gov before registering for the class. Refunds will not be given if a criminal history issue prevents you from being commissioned or being able to completing the class.

Also, students must have a copy of the current edition of the following required textbook:

It is strongly recommended that students study the manual prior to class attendance to be better prepared for the state examination given at the end of the class.  

Please be aware that there are several sites that are currently selling counterfeit books.  These counterfeit books are not acceptable by the state, and you will have to purchase the correct book prior to being allowed to sit in the class. 

The cost of the course is $70.00 plus $2.00 access fee.

POST 301 BROKER RELATIONSHIPS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Post 301 – Broker Relationships and Responsibilities course is one of the three 30-classroom-hour courses in the North Carolina mandatory post-licensing education program. All three courses must be completed by North Carolina provisional brokers within 18 months of initial licensure to remain eligible for active license status. The primary objective of the course is to provide instruction at a level beyond that provided in Prelicensing courses on topics deemed to be of special importance. Topics addressed in this course include: .a review of agency relationships in real estate residential and commercial sales and commercial property management transactions, a real estate broker’s legal duties to clients and customers, a step-by-step review and discussion of the functions and responsibilities of a real estate broker when working with sellers and buyers, a review of issues associated with transactions in progress when a broker leaves a firm, and a review of license status and education issues. The primary objective of the course is to provide instruction at a level beyond that provided in pre-licensing courses on topics deemed to be of special importance. Insurance Pre-Licensing Academy – Blue Cross NC Partnership

Robeson Community College and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) have partnered to offer an insurance career pathway with scholarship opportunities for students. 

Three academies will be held each year, with the first Insurance Pre-licensing Academy beginning February 6, 2023. The academy offers the pre-licensing education required by the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) to become an insurance licensee. Program courses will include Life Insurance, Accident & Health/Sickness Insurance, and Medicare Supplement/Long-Term Care/Estate Insurance. Students will be provided with a student kit that includes a laptop and other essential tools to complete the course and successfully begin a career in the insurance field.

Class Dates: Students must enroll and successfully complete both classes listed below for the Insurance Academy.  Both classes are hybrid classes and require specific dates for face-to-face meetings.

Income Maintenance Case Worker

INCOME MAINTENANCE CASE WORKER  (Department of Social Services)

Gain Skills that will prepare you to work as an Income Maintenance Case Worker with the Department of Social Services

This training is divided into two phases. Classes are required to be taken in order.

Income Maintenance Caseworker (Phase I) –
Training consists of

  • Entry-level soft skills required for the Department of Social Services
  • Customer service
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills
  • Interview tips and resume skills
  • NC FAST terminology and navigation
  • National Career Readiness Certificate through WorkKeys training
  • HRD Fee Waiver available for those meeting eligibility criteria.

  • More in-depth training in the NC FAST system
  • Updating/changing demographics on individuals/families, which can affect eligibility and services received

  • Currently unemployed – You do not have a job at the time you apply.
  • Have received notification of a pending layoff – Your employer has informed you that you will be laid off, even if you’re still working.
  • Working and eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) – You are employed and your income is low enough to qualify for the federal EITC.
  • Working and earning wages at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines – Your household income is no more than twice the federal poverty level for your household size.

Fundamentals of Culinary

This course introduces the fundamental concepts, skills, and techniques in basic cookery, and moist, dry, and combination heat. Emphasis is placed on recipe conversion, measurements, terminology, classical knife cuts, safe food/equipment handling, flavorings/seasonings, stocks/sauces/soups, and related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to exhibit the basic cooking skills used in the foodservice industry.

COURSE STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:

  • Have knowledge of basic food-service industry history
  • Describe and implement the needed steps in preventing food poisoning and foodborne diseases
  • Demonstrate recipe conversion
  • Exhibit basic cooking skills used in the foodservice industry

Other Materials/Supplies

Students are required to have one pair of non-slip rubber-soled shoes and hair restraints. Rules of sanitation must be followed; therefore, short, clean fingernails are a must with no polish and/or artificial nails. The wearing of jewelry, except a plain wedding band, is also not authorized. Students are encouraged to bring in their own Knife kit that should include, but not be limited to, a Chef knife, boning knife, paring knife, and slicing knife.
