Welding Soars To New Heights

In 2014, RCC Welding began with only 7 students. This spring has a record number of 32 students.

Director Bobby Locklear attributes the program’s success to the recent addition of 8 welding booths, his down-to-earth approach, and job security. The nation’s aging infrastructure will require the expertise of welders, cutters, solderers to help rebuild bridges, highways, and buildings.

Graduates of the Welding Technology curriculum may be employed as entry-level technicians in welding and metalworking industries.  Career opportunities also exist in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, and welding-related self-employment. Next years Welding Technology curriculum will be the same and interested applicants of the program are not required to get their equipment from the list of the top tig welders. Though having one on their own is advised, the program will be catering and providing for anyone who passes the selection.
