RCC’s Rocky Peterkin Remembered

As we look back on 2021, RCC remembers one of its own, a beloved colleague, friend, and advocate for students Rocky Peterkin. Peterkin passed away in late September at the age of 68.

Rocky was the Assistant Vice President of the College and Career Readiness program at Robeson Community College. He began his journey at the college in 2008, but had worked in other education settings prior to that, including high schools in Scotland, Marlboro, and Robeson counties.

Many knew Rocky as Professor Peterkin. He was remembered for being a true role model, someone that students could look up to and as being a positive person who made learning exciting. He touched many lives throughout his career in education, including many students at Robeson Community College.

To celebrate his life and to remember his contributions at RCC, his wife Pat Peterkin purchased a brick in his memory from the RCC Foundation. The walkway stone was engraved with his name, title, and dates of his years of service at Robeson Community College.

The brick was placed in the Rose Garden, which is located between the main entrance of the college and Building 2, during a private ceremony held in late November. His wife Pat, members of the RCC Foundation, and the College and Career Readiness team all  paid their respects to Professor Peterkin during the ceremony.
