LUMBERTON, NC (May 27, 2008) — The RCC Robeson Regional Biotech Education Consortium (RRBEC) project was recently featured in the annual AACC Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Projects Impact publication. The booklet features 84 ATE projects and highlights the program's impressive impact.
The RRBEC is a partnership between Robeson Community College, UNC Pembroke and the Public Schools of Robeson County to increase the number of students in the biotechnology field by providing training and professional development for high school science teachers, improving the biotechnology curriculum at the post-secondary level and providing internships for students. The project is funded by a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation.
The AACC has a long standing relationship with the National Science Foundation. The ATE program is characterized by its extensive array of partnerships and collaboration with industry. Throughout the United States, more than 200 projects and centers focus on enhancing technician education to ensure that students are equipped with the skills they need to excel in high-tech workplaces.
