RCC Receives First Endowed Cosmetology Scholarship
LUMBERTON, NC (May 1, 2008) — Senator David F. Weinstein has established the first endowed cosmetology scholarship at Robeson Community College. The Karen Weinstein Endowed Scholarship is in honor of Weinstein’s wife and will benefit students enrolled in the cosmetology program. As an endowed scholarship, it will be awarded perpetually.
The scholarship gift is for $5,000.00. The first scholarship from the endowment will be awarded next fall.
The RCC School of Cosmetology is one of six of its kind within the Southeastern Region of Community Colleges. Location and reputation have been the key to its success. Students travel as far as Cumberland County to find out what it takes to become a trained professional in the field. The program offers ongoing classes Monday thru Friday, during both morning and evening hours. In addition to instructional services, the department offers hair and nail services to the community for a nominal fee.
The RCC Foundation will appoint a committee that will establish criteria for the award.
