LUMBERTON, NC (May 1, 2008) — Robeson Community College is pleased to announce that Bill Tubbs has established the first scholarship for the aviation program. The $5,000.00 Bill and Mayme Tubbs Aviation Scholarship offers two second year aviation students a $2,500.00 award to be designated to their flight training and education.
Second year students holding a FAA Second or First Class Aviation Medical Certificate and a FAA Private Pilot Certificate pursuing a career in the field of aviation are the target students for this scholarship.
RCC and the University of North Dakota Aerospace (UND) offer students an opportunity to seek a Bachelor of Science degree in the following areas: commercial aviation, flight education, air traffic control or aviation systems management. Local students who wish to pursue one of these degrees will spend the first two years in Lumberton, NC and receive flight and ground training towards private pilot certification, instrument rating, and general education credit towards a four year degree. Upon completion of the two year training, students can transfer to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, for two more years of advanced aircraft training and obtain flight instructor certifications.
