RALEIGH, NC (April 16, 2008) — John G. Brigman and Cynthia Marshall Culbreth both received a special
recognition on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Raleigh Hilton North in
Raleigh along with other community college students across the state.
The students were honored at the 2008 Academic Awards Luncheon which is
an annual event and hosted by the North Carolina Community College
System Office. Both John and Cynthia hold a 4.0 GPA and are expected to
graduate on May 15, 2008. John is seeking an Associate in Applied
Science in Electrical/Electronics Technology and Cynthia is working
towards an Associate in Arts in College Transfer.
System President H. Martin Lancaster led the event and more than 15
members of the North Carolina General Assembly were present.
RCC was proud to have present our very own President, Dr. Charles V.
Chrestman; Crystal Edmonds, English Department Chairperson, William
Locklear, Assistant VP, Public Services and Applied Technology; and
special guest, Representative Douglas Y. Yongue from the NC House of
Representatives; and yours truly.
The event was also a chance to pay special tribute to retiring System
President Martin Lancaster, who with Cape Fear Community College
President Eric McKeithan, created the event to praise students and give
deserved acknowledgment to the colleges that educate them. Several
speakers took the opportunity to thank Lancaster for his years of
service to the community colleges and especially to the students.
Congratulations to RCC's high achieving students; John Brigman and
Cynthia Marshall Culbreth.
