About Basic Skills Education
Robeson Community College provides a Basic Skills Education Program to improve one’s reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills through eight major program components.
The program is designed to assist adults in becoming literate and obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency. The program also assists adults who are parents to obtain the education necessary to become full partners in the educational development of their children and to assist their children in the completion of a secondary school education.
Additionally, the program targets specific populations who may be at risk of lacking competencies required to function in the workplace or society. These groups include but are not limited to minorities, youth (ages 16 through 21), persons of limited English proficiency, chronically unemployed persons, persons receiving public assistance, the homeless, and the incarcerated.
